Jakarta, August 21, 2024 – The Special Capital Region (DKI) Jakarta continues to strengthen its role in boosting Indonesia's economy by recording an export value of USD 11.08 billion in 2023, placing it in 9th position nationally. Additionally, DKI Jakarta has an estimated number of exporters, the second largest in Indonesia, totaling 3,296 exporters. This data highlights Jakarta's strategic role in international trade and its contribution to national economic growth.

Rini Satriani, Chief Specialist of Market Intelligence & Leads Management at LPEI, projects that Jakarta's export growth will increase by 3.5% in 2024 and 4.4% in 2025. This growth is driven by the dominance of DKI Jakarta's manufacturing products, which are exported to over 209 countries, focusing on key commodities such as machinery and mechanical equipment (13.90%), electronic equipment (11.05%), and vehicles and parts (8.04%).

"Jakarta is one of the nation's backbones with more than 3,200 exporters, most of whom have consistently exported for the past 5 years. There is still potential for the export of DKI Jakarta's top products, such as beauty and fragrance products with a potential of IDR 22.12 trillion, pharmaceutical products (Pharmaceutical Components) amounting to IDR 9.61 trillion, and Fish & Shellfish products amounting to IDR 72.68 trillion," said Rini.

Recognizing the importance of DKI Jakarta's role in the national economy, LPEI continues to support and develop export potential in DKI Jakarta Province through the reorganization of forums involving top exporters in DKI Jakarta at the "LPEI Export Forum: Market Review of DKI Jakarta's Top Export Products" on Thursday (15/8).

This event was held to increase DKI Jakarta's exports by providing an export outlook in DKI Jakarta, so that exporters can understand market prospects that open up export opportunities. This activity was organized by LPEI in collaboration with the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and Small and Medium Enterprises of DKI Jakarta Province. The forum also highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government, businesses, and financial institutions in taking advantage of export opportunities and strengthening the competitiveness of regional top products.

The Head of the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and Small and Medium Enterprises of DKI Jakarta Province, Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo, said that DKI Jakarta has successfully increased its export value through hard work and collaboration between various parties, including the government and business actors.

"DKI Jakarta's export value for the first semester of 2024 reached USD 5.669,96 million, higher than the same period last year. With DKI Jakarta's export performance in 2024 tending to be better than the previous year, it is in line with DKI Jakarta's efforts to become a smart city and strive as an economic activity center, business hub, and support Jakarta's vision as a global city," said Ratu.

Maqin U. Norhadi, Managing Director of Business Development at LPEI, explained that "LPEI has assisted thousands of SMEs, helping them become exporters capable of penetrating global markets. To date, LPEI has successfully helped Indonesian business actors penetrate markets in 134 countries, and we are ready to assist businesses in exporting to other countries."

Some of the main export destinations for DKI Jakarta include Singapore (23.07%), China (16.58%), and Japan (13.18%). These exports are supported by more than 52 thousand buyers from various countries, with 36% being loyal buyers. This success demonstrates the high trust and competitiveness of Jakarta's products in the global market, as well as the great potential to continue expanding export reach to more countries.

LPEI's Chief of Region, Anton Herdiyanto, explained that LPEI consistently supports export-oriented business actors to increase their business capacity and capabilities to Dare to Go Global.

"We are committed to continuing to support business actors in optimizing export potential, including providing effective payment solutions to enhance the capabilities of export business actors in Indonesia," said Anton.
