Jakarta, July 20, 2022 — PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) is strengthening its collaboration for the benefit of national exports through a partnership agreement with the Indonesian Export Financing Institution (LPEI). In the initial stage, BSI has partnered with LPEI by providing a financing facility of IDR 3 trillion for LPEI's business development.
The President Director of BSI, Hery Gunardi, stated that their readiness, infrastructure, services, and digital capabilities are dedicated to supporting LPEI's business acceleration aimed at boosting national exports. This collaboration is especially significant in light of the recent announcement by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) that Indonesia's trade balance has recorded a surplus.
Hery emphasized that BSI is fully committed to supporting LPEI as consistent efforts to promote national exports are essential for all stakeholders. A trade surplus will stimulate the economy by creating job opportunities, especially when there is an increase in demand for goods and services.
"With this partnership, we hope to support LPEI in strengthening national export transactions. This is in line with our commitment to contribute to the revival of Indonesia's economy, including its exports," Hery affirmed.
The data released by BPS indicates that Indonesia's exports in June 2022 reached USD 26.09 billion, a 40.68% increase compared to the same period in 2021. In June 2022, imports amounted to USD 21 billion, a 21.98% increase from June 2021. This resulted in a trade surplus of USD 5.09 billion in June 2022, extending the trend of Indonesia's trade surplus for 25 consecutive months since May 2020.
Maintaining this consistent trade surplus is essential, not only for direct exporters but also for BSI as a sharia bank, which supports a wide range of companies, including large enterprises and SMEs. This surplus will enhance Indonesia's economic resilience, benefiting all segments of the economy. BSI is prepared to make a tangible contribution to this effort.
As of March 2022, BSI's financing performance grew positively at 11.59% year-on-year (YoY). BSI also recorded a sustainable financing portfolio of IDR 48.25 trillion, contributing to approximately 27% of the total financing portfolio during the same period. The quality of BSI's financing is also improving and well-maintained, as reflected by the Net Non-Performing Financing (NPF) dropping to 0.90% in March 2022. NPF Gross has also decreased, from 3.09% in March 2021 to 2.91% in March 2022.
"This collaboration is expected to drive growth from all aspects. It will benefit BSI and LPEI and, more importantly, enhance the quality of Indonesian exports," Hery concluded with optimism.
This partnership encompasses various areas, including the provision of financing facilities, the utilization of sharia banking services for export and import transactions, payroll services for LPEI's employees, and financing assurance services for BSI customers engaged in export activities.
This collaboration follows a previous agreement signed in March, which allowed LPEI employees to benefit from BSI's payroll, financing facilities, and a range of banking services. BSI, which is driven by Islamic values, is striving to become a strong partner for LPEI in developing exports through sharia-based financing, funding, and digital transactions.
In the same context, the Executive Director of LPEI, Riyani Tirtoso, expressed a similarly positive outlook. She said, "We believe that the synergy and collaboration will eventually lead to the creation of competitive businesses that contribute to sustainable national exports. Our hope is that this partnership can continue to grow and evolve."
