Bali, April 27, 2023 - The collaboration and synergy among stakeholders, including Lembaga Pembiayaan Ekspor Indonesia (LPEI) or Indonesia Eximbank, the Ministry of Finance (Directorate General of State Wealth and Directorate General of Customs and Excise), and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (Jembrana Polytechnic of Marine and Fisheries), have officially inaugurated the Vannamei Shrimp Cluster Village in Jembrana on March 16, 2023. The inauguration of this Cluster Village aims to provide capacity building based on community empowerment for cooperative managers, fishermen, and Vannamei shrimp farmers in the Jembrana Regency, Bali. This program is expected to enhance the competencies of shrimp farmers, including aspects of licensing, export procedures and documents, and improvement of production quality.
As the initiator of the program, LPEI is ready to support the development of the Vannamei Shrimp Cluster Village towards the global market. In addition to providing assistance in the form of building ponds for shrimp farming practice and education, LPEI also provides mentoring, monitoring, publicity, and infrastructure for training to ensure the optimal process of capacity building for production and export procedures.
"LPEI provides mentoring and training to the Cahaya Mina PKPJ Producers Cooperative, which serves as a supporting institution for shrimp farmers who are members of the Joint Business Group (KUB). We will provide continuous guidance for 2 to 3 years, and we hope that the shrimp farmers can engage in independent exports. Additionally, we empower housewives to engage in the production of processed food made from Vannamei shrimp, which is expected to improve the economic status and welfare of fishermen, shrimp farmers, and the local community," said Koerniawan Prijambodo, Head of Regional Office III of LPEI.
The training and mentoring for Vannamei shrimp farming are conducted in four locations, namely Pengambengan Village, Lelateng Village, Budeng Village, and Cupel Village in Negara District, Jembrana Regency, Bali. These villages were chosen for their unique characteristics, including the good environmental resistance and disease resistance of Vannamei shrimp, competitive selling prices, relatively low production costs, rapid production growth, and high content of omega-3 fatty acids, which make Vannamei shrimp a flagship commodity in the Jembrana region. It is these potentials and productivity that led to the selection of these villages to receive various stages of development in the Desa Devisa (Cluster Village) program.
"We hope that with the official establishment of the Vannamei Shrimp Cluster Village, it can enhance the understanding of fishermen and Vannamei shrimp farmers in managing our flagship commodity in our region and expanding the market internationally," said Kamaruzzaman, the Head of Pengambengan Village, Jembrana Regency.
Involving 253 fishermen and Vannamei shrimp farmers who are members of 8 Joint Business Groups (KUB), LPEI aims for the Vannamei Shrimp Cluster Village in Jembrana to export Vannamei shrimp to various main destination countries such as the United States, China, Japan, and Europe. "This is proof of LPEI's ongoing commitment as a Special Mission Vehicle (SMV) of the Ministry of Finance to enhance national exports," concluded Koerniawan.
