Jakarta, February 4, 2023 - Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia are rich in commodities with great potential to penetrate export markets. However, only a few MSMEs have successfully brought their products to compete on the global stage.
As a Special Mission Vehicle of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, Lembaga Pembiayaan Ekspor Indonesia (LPEI) / Indonesia Eximbank is committed to empowering MSMEs to become competitive global exporters capable of entering international markets. One of the ways to achieve this is through the Consultancy Services program.
Chesna F. Anwar, Executive Director of Institutional Relations at LPEI, stated that MSMEs in Indonesia are one of the largest contributors to the national economy. Therefore, it is necessary to support MSMEs in exploring export markets to enhance their contribution. "Never be afraid to explore products that can become globally recognized local products because LPEI can help find their potential," said Chesna during the "Bronis UMKM" event organized by Kompas.com (January 2).
Chesna further explained that LPEI has various programs under the Consultancy Services, such as the Coaching Program for New Exporters (CPNE), Desa Devisa (Village Devisa), and Marketing Handholding.
The CPNE program is designed to train and mentor export-oriented MSMEs to produce high-quality products that can compete in the global market. Participants are provided with specialized modules to equip them with knowledge and skills to become new exporters.
Desa Devisa is a community development-based program aimed at developing the potential of flagship commodities in villages while improving the livelihoods of local communities. "The ultimate goal of Desa Devisa is to create foreign exchange inflows into villages with superior products, thereby improving the welfare of the local community," explained Chesna.
Another program, Marketing Handholding, opens up market access by providing guidance to MSMEs in marketing their products through global marketplaces, as well as providing insights into digital marketing strategies.
During the same event, Chesna also shared some success tips for MSMEs interested in entering the export market. She emphasized the importance of curiosity in learning about foreign markets, which is a crucial aspect that aspiring exporters need to develop. "From what I have observed, successful MSMEs are those who are open to listening to guidance from their buyers, allowing them to diversify their products to attract buyer interest," Chesna said.
She also emphasized the role of dreams in motivating MSMEs, especially the younger generation, to become globally recognized exporters. "The most important thing to have is a dream. A dream that these young entrepreneurs will dominate the world because behind that dream lies a story of hard work," Chesna concluded.
Until December 2022, LPEI has provided training and mentoring to over 3,500 MSMEs, resulting in the emergence of 224 new successful exporters who have exported their products to countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, China, Canada, the United States, as well as countries in East Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Furthermore, as of December 2022, LPEI has established 178 Desa Devisa (Devisa Villages) consisting of various clusters, including coffee, shrimp, pepper, furniture, and home décor.
