Jakarta, June 6, 2023 – Three export challenges for export-oriented Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) were highlighted by exporters in the "Dare to Go Global" Forum organized by the Indonesia Eximbank on June 1, 2024. Exporters emphasized maintaining the quality and capacity of export products, logistical challenges, and strategies for finding reliable buyers. LPEI Managing Director of Business Development, Maqin U. Norhadi, agreed with these points during the "Dare to Go Global" Forum.
Indonesia Eximbank, as a special financial institution mandated by the Indonesian Government to continuously promote national exports, initiated the "Dare to Go Global" Forum as a platform for discussion and collaboration within the export ecosystem, which includes ministries, banks, partners, SMEs, associations, and others, to collectively build and enhance the capacity of SMEs to boldly go global in a sustainable manner.
In the discussion, exporters discussed their efforts to increase the added value of products and provide business benefits in penetrating international markets.
CEO of PT Tartaruga Food Indonesia, Achmad Jawahir, an alumnus of the 2023 LPEI Coaching Program for New Exporters (CPNE), said, “We need help finding buyers. My experience in getting the opportunity to export to Malaysia initially was facilitated by Indonesia Eximbank through the Business Matching program.”
Established in 2020, Tartaruga has become a seaweed processing factory with halal certification and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification. With products made from high-fiber, vitamin-rich, mineral-rich, and low-cholesterol seaweed, Tartaruga products have successfully been exported to Malaysia, Australia, and Saudi Arabia.
CEO of PT Hadir Mengharumkan Nusantara, Rizky Arief Dwi Prakoso, owner of the HMNS perfume brand that is currently hyped in the domestic market, stated that the challenge for his product in penetrating the global market is how to have a competitive advantage compared to global fashion brands.
Founder of CV IKAPEKSI Agro Industri, Nurjannah, mentioned the challenge at the beginning of exporting was the lack of knowledge in exporting despite receiving positive responses from potential buyers. “Alhamdulillah, we received CPNE training from LPEI in 2019, we were guided for a year, and the impact was extraordinary,” she said.
Nurjannah also shared that in early 2022, CV IKAPEKSI Agro Industri participated in LPEI Business Matching and successfully exported soy sauce to Saudi Arabia worth USD 37,000, equivalent to 22 tons of soy sauce. To date, Oishii soy sauce has successfully been exported to Saudi Arabia and Japan.
Nurjannah started the Oishii soy sauce business in 2017 in Kebumen, Central Java, with the dream of producing healthy sweet soy sauce without additives such as flavor enhancers, food coloring, and preservatives. Oishii soy sauce uses ingredients and spices from Indonesia, such as white soybeans, ginger, lemongrass, coconut sugar, and galangal.
To address the various challenges faced by business actors and to provide equal opportunities for exporters across Indonesia, LPEI continues to transform to find solutions for export-oriented businesses. Currently, LPEI is preparing a marketplace specifically designed as a means of export education, information services, incubation, capacity building, and a place for sellers and buyers to meet (business matching). The ease and availability of complete services on the marketplace are expected to encourage export-oriented businesses to dare to go global.
The marketplace named Komodoin was introduced to the Indonesian export ecosystem at the "Dare to Go Global" Forum on June 1, 2024, at Sarinah, Jakarta, in line with the spirit of Pancasila Day.
Komodoin aims to unite the nation's children in enhancing the capabilities of export-oriented business actors. Komodoin is expected to be accessible to the public in August 2024 with four services, namely education, curation, incubation, and transactions for export. It is hoped that Komodoin will help exporters quickly and accurately access the limitless global market (cross border). Komodoin will collaborate with various partners from relevant ministries, banks, export SME communities, overseas buyer aggregators, Diaspora, Indonesian Embassies abroad, Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC), and Trade Attachés.
LPEI Executive Director, Riyani Tirtoso, said, “Komodoin will be an end-to-end services provider owned by the Government Institution - LPEI, currently prioritized to increase transaction volumes and the number of Indonesian export-oriented SMEs.”
The "Dare to Go Global" Forum was also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, the Ministry of Cooperatives & SMEs of the Republic of Indonesia, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Industries of the Republic of Indonesia, the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, banks, SMEs, universities, business associations, Trade Attachés, ITPC, Diaspora, and several buyers from various countries, including Barcelona, Canberra, China, Dubai, London, Malaysia, Sydney, and Vietnam.
