Jakarta, April 22, 2024 – Collaboration between government institutions through the Indonesian Eximbank as Indonesian Government Financial Institution with the Trade Attaché (Atdag) Ottawa, Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Vancouver, Indonesian Diaspora in Canada, and Maharani Craft (CPNE Alumni – LPEI fostered) as the activity aggregator has successfully led LPEI's SME partners to penetrate the export market for the first time to Canada.

A total of 19 SME partners from Bali, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Jakarta have become new Indonesian exporters by exporting more than 3,300 handicraft and craft products. The symbolic joint release took place in Bandung on Tuesday (22/4). This initial export is a continuation of sample shipments and the Toronto Gift Show 2024 exhibition in January 2024, where Indonesian Diaspora, Hartati Suganda, owner of Cantiq Living, acted as the buyer and marketed environmentally friendly and home decor products made in Indonesia in the Canadian market.

LPEI Managing Director of Business Development, Maqin U. Norhadi, stated that LPEI not only creates new export SMEs but also provides solutions to reduce SME logistics costs and promote sustainable exports by building an export ecosystem. LPEI's collaboration with the export ecosystem is expected to sustainably increase the exports of LPEI's fostered partners and provide more competitive prices for Indonesian products.

"This export release is proof that the export ecosystem built by LPEI has been running well. LPEI, as a facilitator of market expansion for exporters, supports various business matching activities in collaboration with the export ecosystem and the Indonesian diaspora abroad to connect and promote Indonesian SME products to foreign buyers," said Maqin.

Utomo Kuntjoro, who was present at the joint export release representing Hartati Suganda, owner of Cantiq Living, appreciated the concrete support provided by LPEI in connecting SMEs with the Indonesian diaspora. "I hope the good mutualistic relationship between SME actors, the Indonesian diaspora, Atdag, and ITPC in this export ecosystem can overcome the barriers of Indonesian SME products so that Indonesian products can compete in the global market," he said.

Several SMEs that have successfully exported their products to Canada include Greater Goods, Sakha, Riani Rattan, Sheo Home Living, Maharani Craft, Machastore, Bali Handy, Orchid, Sahana Craft, and Matahari Cahaya Dewata from Bali; Mawar Ketak and Unique Lombok from NTB; Mendong Jaya, Studio Dapur, and Dilmoni Citra Mebel Indonesia from Cirebon, West Java; as well as Multi Kreatif Furnindo, Sabila Craft from Central Java, and Sabila Artshop and Raya Craft from Cirebon.

Irene Setiawati, owner of Maharani Craft, added, "We appreciate LPEI's commitment to advancing Indonesian SMEs by expanding the export market reach for SMEs. Currently, Maharani Craft has exported to five countries, including Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the Netherlands. Thanks to LPEI's support for export-oriented SMEs like Maharani Craft, expanding new market access to Canada has brought significant impact for us to continue sustainable exports and improve the welfare of Indonesian SME actors."

As additional information, LPEI throughout 2023 has distributed financing for UKME and UMBE amounting to IDR 14.5 trillion with more than 170 export destination countries and generated 613 new exporters. Specifically, for Special Export Distribution (PKE), LPEI has helped more than 90 products for export to various countries.
