Jakarta, April 20, 2024 – According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the performance of Indonesia's Textile/Apparel Fabric export value (HS Code 56 – 60) throughout 2023 reached USD 473.31 million. The five main export destinations for Indonesia's textile/apparel fabric are Japan (19.6%), Vietnam (15.6%), India (7.4%), the United States (6.1%), and South Korea (5.8%).

Based on BPS data, the performance of batik export value reached USD 17.45 million in 2023. Indonesian batik is mostly exported to the following countries: the United States (74.75%), Germany (3.61%), Singapore (3.23%), Malaysia (2.82%), and Canada (1.92%). As a supplier of apparel materials, Indonesia continues to develop fabric design potential and make breakthroughs to reach a wider market.

Aromatherapy batik is a unique product that emits a fragrant aroma of spices and flowers from its fabric, lasting up to four years even with repeated washing. The aromatherapy batik method was discovered by a millennial woman, Warisatul Hasanah, who founded Batik Al-Warits. Al Warits has been an LPEI partner since 2019 and has participated in various international exhibitions such as the 2019 Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI).

Indonesia Eximbank continues to strengthen its commitment to realizing a sustainable export ecosystem that can make a significant contribution to national exports. One concrete manifestation is by providing assistance to aromatherapy batik artisans, a hallmark of Madura.

To promote a sustainable export ecosystem that can make a significant contribution to national exports, LPEI collaborates with Kemenkeu Satu (Customs and Excise and the Directorate General of Taxes), and the East Java Province Cooperative, Small and Medium Enterprises Office to provide assistance to 139 female artisans fostered by Al-Warits from 11 villages in Bangkalan, Pamekasan, and Sumenep districts.

Warisatul Hasanah added that LPEI together with Kemenkeu Satu also provide various other training sessions in order to strengthen the capacity and organization of the company. "In addition to competency strengthening and production capacity improvement, we were also given training in financial report preparation, corporate management, export procedures and licensing, as well as tax counseling to enhance the business capacity of the Aromatherapy Batik Village," said Warisatul Hasanah.

Various training and mentoring from LPEI for the design of Madura gentong batik and the increase in production capacity over the past year have begun to bear fruit. LPEI successfully increased the production capacity of batik artisans from 400 fabrics per day to 4,000 fabrics per day and the artisans' income from IDR 300,000 to IDR 1,250,000 per month.

Head of LPEI Consulting Services Division Ilham Mustafa explained that the Desa Devisa Program is designed to provide comprehensive and sustainable assistance with the aim of unlocking the export potential of regional superior commodities. The Desa Devisa Aromatherapy Batik mentoring successfully promoted the export of aromatherapy batik products to the United States, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, and Japan.

"LPEI remains committed to realizing a sustainable export ecosystem to create welfare for batik artisans," said Ilham.
